Let's Get This Right
The tsunami of misinformation engulfing the minds of students today makes deciphering fact from fiction an overwhelming challenge. It’s hard to know what to believe and whom to trust. The School of Hard Facts curriculum, designed for 4th, 5th and 6th graders, is our answer to this problem.
Fun, interactive and informative, the course will give your students the tools they need to unpack the veracity of complex content by letting them practice on lighter fare (Selena Gomez, Zendaya, Taylor Swift, Minecraft, Dog Man).
Practicing Fact-Finding
On a “fake news” blog, “Pop Digest Daily,” we've published pieces on mega stars like Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande freighted with falsities that your students will have to catch and correct with high quality sources. They'll work together to fact-ify posts containing erroneous details about a wide assortment of pop culture content (via TikTok, SnapChat, Instagram and Twitter).
Reinforcing Your Academic Goals
The skills they'll gain from our high-caliber fact-checking course will reinforce your larger goals for their academic success, improving their critical thinking, close reading and analytic math skills.
Disrupting Social Media
The School of Hard Facts will not only provide a fact-checking filter through which your child will be able to identify — and dismiss! — misinformation, it will also encourage them to deliberate before publishing words, images and videos of themselves or others on various platforms (TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.) by teaching to slow down and think through how they want to be and be seen online with a memorable self-inventory checklist. In our class, "Managing Your Digital Footprint," they'll learn how to conduct themselves online like seasoned and responsible journalists.
This class will also help thwart cyberbullying by equipping students with the tools they need to disrupt false narratives circulating online about their classmates. Ultimately, they will learn to dismiss what they can’t confirm and rely on their own assessments of others, a critical first step in stemming the destructive impact of online bullying.
By helping students turn down the volume on all the noise to hear the facts, we'll help create a quieter space in their minds that will facilitate the learning process throughout the year.
Together, we can stop the spread of misinformation. Learn more about our offerings at Classes.
